Once upon a time, there lived a rich man in an isolated place. He had a vast expanse of land and cattle ranches. Of course, he had hired some pasturers. They were fed by the rich man, and every time they had their meals, the kind of food served to them was not the same as that for the rich man.
One day, one of the pasturers thought of a plan to butcher a cattle in order for them to eat a delicious dish. At first, the majority of them did not really want to push through with their said plan, for it would be risky for them when the rich man would learn about it. However, because of the words of encouragement from the one who initiated the plan, they pushed themselves and decided to go through with the plan.
One morning, when the cattle owner had the time to visit the place and encountered the cattle, one cattle was missing. He undoubtedly called them, asking if one of them had lost a cattle, and they fearfully answered that it fell down the well. They tried to figure out what had happened and pulled it out from the well. The pasturers explained to the cattle owner that its body was deep in the well. Deep in the well, which means “na-un Unag” in Itawes, their dialect. From that time, the isolated place was called “UNAG,” named after the incident with the cattle’s body.
