Of the fourty seven Barangays of Amulung, Baccuit lies accross the mighty Cagayan River, west of the Maharlika highway situated geographically in Amulung East. Along the riverside, Baccuit is next to Bauan being eroded and possibly washed-out. Soil erosion started way back in the early 1960’s when the river changed its course from its normal direction.
From an account of the old folks and early settlers of the barangay, Baccuit was once an evacuation place of highway residents seeking refuge from bombing, air raids, and human hostilities of World War II. Still densely forested then, and its location across the river, the barangay was favorable hiding place and they often refer it as “pag-ebakwitan” thus, the name “BACCUIT” came into existence.
