No specific or exact explanation was made why this place became a barrio but there was an account how this barrio came into existence.
This place was located at the side of Cagayan River and it is along the National Highway. It is in between Barangay Anquiray and Barangay Concepcion.
Many of its inhabitants or early settlers were already Christianized at the time when this place became barrio because they were influenced by the different people of other places. According to the old folks, the first inhabitants were immigrants of Kalinga who came from different places but the people in Barangay Babayuan are Itawes and ilocano.
According to some people of this place, this Barangay was named after the word “BABAYUAN” MEANING THE FAMOUS PLACE FOR POUNDING rice and corn, and also ABBAYUAN grains for food to eat. The people of Babayuan practically defend their livelihood on planting rice, corn, vegetables, tobacco and some fishing.
